Hi, I’m Ali.
I’ve always said I was willing to try anything… once. I have scuba dived, sky dived, travelled to various countries on my own and eaten and drank some ridiculous things (many of these I invoked the once clause). Now I’m in my 30s with a husband, two kids, two dogs and a lot of house. When we moved here with a 1- and a 3-year old, I quickly declared we were never moving again. However, the house needed some work and we were nervous about having a bigger mortgage.
So, in our new home, I started indulging my lifelong love of trash treasures, yard sales, and freecycle. Which of course led me to some wonderful finds, many of which needed just a little updating… and so a new project was born! And then another, and another…
I will be the first to tell you my house is a work in progress. But through the kindness of friends I’ve realized not everyone is cramming in creating a chandelier, transforming an old china cabinet into a flat screen tv display, and making capiz shell mobiles for their children in the 3 hours their kids go to pre-school a couple of mornings a week. Now that I’ve re-found the crafty and creative energies that defined my youth, I’m ready and willing to apply my ‘try anything once’ attitude to home improvement projects with abandon.
So here I go with a flying leap into the blogging world to share my work and learn from others and hopefully join the amazing DIY, design, and lifestyle blogging community that has kept me inspired and motivated in my home and life.
Welcome to the Painted Lark!
